SQL Server Management Studio Reports

Along with many other great features in SQL Server Management Studio, there is a very good feature called Reports. Most people use Management Studio Tool just like another Enterprise Manager but it is much more than just Enterprise Manager. For example, if you click on Summary button on toolbar you will get the summary of the node selected in object explorer . In this Summary pane, you will notice that there is a option called Reports like below:

Clicking on any of these report will give you an excellent graphical view the task listed in report. For example, if we click on the first report Server Dashboard we will get following:
This is just one of several reports available for different types of tasks. Just select any other node in Object Explorer and you will see that another set of reports will be available depending on the nature of node selected.

  1. I have a question about “SQL Server Management Studio Reports”

I have a student edition of SQL Server 2000. I installed “Reporting Services” from the install disk but I can’t find any menu selections to create a report. Can you please offer a suggestion?

  3. I have two Visual Studio program selections on my start menu:

    Visual Studio 6.0 and
    Visual Studio.Net 2003

Both are student versions for developers.

I don’t remember using Visual Studio when I created my SQL assignments for school. How is Visual Studio associated with SQL?

  4. OK. I read through much of the documentation. I am running XP which doesn’t support IIS so I came to the conclusion that it is looking for SP 3a because that has the stubs for IIS. However, I tried every which way and I cannot get it to install. I only have SP2. Any more suggestions??

I didn’t look at SP 4 yet. Maybe that would work???
